Variety of Networking Styles

Since starting to become more active on the networking scene, I have experienced quite a few different setups. From extensive Chamber of Commerce events to Sundowners, to more intimate associations like Executive Global Network, Proseed Asia, and Inspire Networking Bangkok, my preference goes to the more intimate events.

During the big chamber evenings, you are in a group of a few hundred people and have about three hours to make new connections. The din generated by such a group makes it often hard to hear conversations. Which little group do you step up to? How long do you give each person to introduce themselves before deciding if they can add value to your network? How quickly do you move on to the next group?  Do you hand out business cards, or exchange LinkedIn profiles?

What slightly smaller associations offer is the time to get to know each other on a more personal level. More frequent meetings breed trust, and this is what we can build on. Because you have a chance to get to know each other and hear their amazing life stories and what brought them to Bangkok.

This is why we need to capture these types of connections into one network and use it as the foundation for building something substantial.
